10-man Harambee Stars stun Morocco to secure historic CHAN Quarterfinal spot

Kenya’s Harambee Stars have made history by defeating Africa’s top-ranked FIFA nation, Morocco, 1-0 in a thrilling CHAN Group A encounter.

The victory not only marks Kenya’s first-ever win against Morocco in six meetings but also guarantees their place in the quarterfinals a monumental achievement for the East African side.

Despite Morocco’s early dominance, Kenya struck just before halftime through Ryan Ogam, who finished off a swift counterattack involving Brian Michira.

The goal came moments before Chris Erambo’s dismissal for a dangerous tackle, leaving the Stars to defend their lead with 10 men for the entire second half.

Head Coach Benni Mccarthy’s tactical discipline shone through as Kenya absorbed pressure while remaining dangerous on the break.

Morocco, despite their numerical advantage, struggled to break down Kenya’s resolute defense, which had already proven its resilience in their earlier draw against Angola.

Kenya nearly doubled their lead in the 53rd minute when Brian Michira won what initially appeared to be a penalty, only for VAR to overturn the decision. The Stars held firm to secure a famous victory their second clean sheet of the tournament.

With progression secured, Kenya will now face Zambia in their final group match, where a draw could see them finish as group winners. Meanwhile, Morocco must defeat Congo to keep their tournament hopes alive.

This victory is more than just three points it’s a statement. After years of near-misses, Kenya has announced itself as a genuine contender, proving it can compete with Africa’s best.

The quarterfinals await, and with this momentum, the Stars will believe they can go even further.
