13 people have been confirmed dead and three critically injured after a matatu they were travelling in rammed into a trailer at Diatomite area in Gilgil Sub-County along the Nakuru – Nairobi highway.

The accident occurred on Sunday September 28, 2025 in the morning.

Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winston Mwakio confirmed the incident, adding that police officers arrived at the scene to help in the rescue exercise.

Those injured have been rushed to the hospital.

This was after a head-on collision between a  matatu from Nairobi and a trailer from Nakuru.

According to witnesses, the matatu driver, who died on the spot, is said to have caused the accident while overtaking another vehicle.
