Police and health officials have launched investigations after a 13-year-old boy died as a result of suspected food poisoning in Mbeere, Embu County.
The victim, a pupil at Kabuguri Primary school, had attended an event with other people within the neighborhood and had food and drinks that are believed to have turned poisonous.
During the incident that happened on May 11, 2025, several locals including the deceased, started vomiting and experiencing diarrhoea.
Meanwhile, six other victims of food poisoning were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later discharged.
According to the police report, the boy died as he was being taken to the hospital. This is after he had diarrhoea, and vomited as he complained of stomach pains.
Health officials and police visited the crime scene and collected food samples as investigations continue.
The body of the deceased was moved to a mortuary for an autopsy as the family continues with burial arrangements.
