A cloud of grief hangs over Rabuor village in Kamsama, Suba North constituency of Homa Bay County, following the brutal killing of a 13-year-old girl.
The lifeless body of Mary Treza, a Grade Seven pupil at Kamsama Comprehensive School, was discovered by the roadside after she went missing on Monday during lunch break.
Mbita Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner, Peter Mutiso, said the pupil was attacked by unknown assailants shortly after parting ways with her classmates on her way home. She was later found dead on Tuesday morning.
Police officers who visited the scene reported that acid had been poured on her face and private parts.
Preliminary investigations indicate she was defiled before being killed.
Suba North Member of Parliament, Millie Odhiambo, condemned the killing, describing it as a shocking and barbaric crime.
She urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to move swiftly and ensure those behind the heinous act are arrested and prosecuted.
The incident has left the community in deep shock, with residents calling for heightened security and justice for the young girl.
