27 nations confirmed for 2026 men’s African senior nations volleyball championship

The Confédération Africaine de Volleyball (CAVB) has officially ratified the entry of 27 national teams for the upcoming 2026 Men’s African Senior Nations Championship. This landmark event is scheduled to take place in Kinshasa, DR Congo, from September 7–21, 2026.

This record-breaking field represents a significant milestone for the sport, underscoring the rapid growth and increasing competitive depth of volleyball across the continent.

For the first time, nearly 30 nations will converge in a single host city to battle for continental supremacy, also serving as a critical qualification pathway for the 2027 FIVB World Championship and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Continental Representation by Zone

The 2026 Men’s African Senior Nations Volleyball Championship, officially ratified by the Confédération Africaine de Volleyball (CAVB), is set to take place in Kinshasa, DR Congo, from September 7 to 21, 2026, featuring a record field of 27 national teams across six continental zones.

Representing Zone 1 are Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia, while Zone 2 includes Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Mali, and Senegal.

Zone 3 will be represented by Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana, with Zone 4 featuring Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, and the host nation, DR Congo.

Zone 5 boasts the largest contingent, including Kenya’s Wafalme Stars alongside Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Uganda, while Zone 6 is represented by Angola and Zimbabwe.

This extensive lineup highlights the rapid growth of the sport on the continent, with the Kenya Volleyball Federation already initiating technical preparations for the Wafalme Stars to compete against Africa’s elite.

Wafalme Stars Ready for Action

The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has confirmed the participation of the national team, the Wafalme Stars.

Fresh off a historic silver medal at the African Games, the Kenyan side is looking to break into the top tier of African volleyball.

The team’s technical bench has already commenced preliminary monitoring of players as they prepare to take on Africa’s elite.

With powerhouses like Tunisia, Egypt, and Algeria in the mix, the Wafalme Stars face a robust field, but the federation remains optimistic about a podium finish in Kinshasa.
