Battle for ODM: Sifuna and Oburu factions hold parallel rallies in Kakamega and Siaya

Today marks a high-stakes showdown in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as rival camps hold massive parallel rallies, intensifying the party’s internal battles and testing grassroots loyalty ahead of 2027 General Elections.

Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi team, backed by James Orengo, Babu Owino, Godfrey Osotsi, and other key allies, is headed to Amalemba Grounds in Kakamega town.

Tension rose earlier with reports of a branded truck stoned near Riat in Kisumu, with sabotage allegations and claims of hired goons ready to disrupt proceedings being raised.

Police confirmed that no formal notice had been received but pledged full security. Orengo described the rally as an “unstoppable tsunami” and vowed it would proceed regardless of challenges.

In Raila Odinga’s historic stronghold, Oburu Oginga’s Linda Ground faction will hold its rallly at Ahindi Gardens in Siaya town with thousands of supporters expected to attend.

ODM leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has maintained that the Deputy President position will be among the “bare minimums” in the party’s anticipated pre-election negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking after a meeting with Siaya County Assembly members ahead of Saturday’s ODM Linda Ground Brigade rally in Siaya town, Oburu emphasized that ODM will enter coalition talks from a position of strength, backed by numbers and a clear agenda.

He said that the ODM party is not going to negotiate from a point of weakness, adding that they are going to negotiate hard.

Dr. Oburu who is also the Senator for Siaya County reiterated that the Deputy President position is one of the issues that they must demand.

Oburu outlined ODM’s priorities, including implementation of its 10-point agenda, distinct party policies, and securing a fair share of government in both development and positions.

These dueling events follow a series of escalating rifts within ODM, including expulsions, debates over government cooperation, and fallout from Raila Odinga’s legacy.

Both sides are mobilizing large numbers in the party’s heartlands, making this Saturday a real-time test of influence and control within ODM.
