Activist Hanifa Adan has revealed that a 14-year-old girl who was shot during the June 25 nationwide protests is dead.
The girl who was receiving treatment at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital died while at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“Unfortunately, a 14-year-old girl who was at Our Lady of Mercy and injured during the protest succumbed in the ICU and passed on,” her X post reads.
Hanifa has been following up on casualties who got injured during protests, while reporting about the death of the 14-year-old, she gave updates on the state of the others.
“Doing my rounds at KNH and most gun shot patients have been discharged very few left. Even Mike Kamau who was in a very state when he came in with six bullets is doing well and will be discharged tomorrow,” she wrote.
Babu Owino visits protest victims
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino visited injured victims of the protests that took place on Tuesday, June 17, at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
Among the 16 brought, the MP says nine (9) have since been discharged, and seven (7) are still hospitalised, with 2 in critical condition, one of them being the young man shot at close range by the police during the protests.
In a statement, Babu Owino painted a picture of the condition of the injured victims, saying that the injuries were targeted attacks and not accidental.
“What I witnessed today is nothing short of a massacre. One patient has seven gunshot wounds to the back. Two others were shot in the eye. Another has a gunshot wound in the the eye. Another has a gunshot wound in the leg. One was shot in the neck, and another at the lower back. These were not accidents. These were deliberate, targeted attacks on unarmed civilians, children of this republic,” he wrote.
Protests took place in Nairobi and Mombasa and several other towns in Kenya over the death of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang’, who died in police custody.
