Madagascar and the Central African Republic (CAR), the only two winless teams in Group B, are set to face off in a vital African Nations Championship clash in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday. This will be the first meeting between the two nations at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship.
Madagascar: Seeking first victory
Madagascar enters the match still winless after starting their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Mauritania before losing 2-1 to hosts Tanzania.
The loss to Tanzania was their first-ever group defeat at a CHAN tournament. They were the first team to score against co-hosts Tanzania, who had kept clean sheets in their first two games.
Despite a promising 2022 debut where they won their first three matches, this is the first time they have failed to win either of their opening two games.
They attempted the most passes in the current edition of the tournament (423) in their match against Tanzania, completing 329 of them with 77.8% accuracy.
Central African Republic: Desperate for points
The Central African Republic comes into the match having lost both of their games so far, falling 4-2 to Burkina Faso and 1-0 to Mauritania.
They will be eliminated from the competition if they fail to secure a win. CAR has struggled defensively, conceding five goals in their first two matches, and is still in search of their first points and first clean sheet of the tournament.
Despite their losses, they managed to produce 16 shots against Mauritania, which is their most in a single CHAN match. However, they failed to score from their three shots on target and conceded with the only shot they faced in that game.
