President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in celebrating the festive season, delivering a Christmas message that blended holiday cheer with a strong appeal for road safety, while surprising many by tapping into Gen Z slang.
In a video shared on his official social media pages on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the President adopted the viral phrase “clock it” to connect with younger audiences.
“Wakenya 2025, we clocked it. I wish you a merry Christmas, a great and blessed 2026,” Ruto said.
He added a cautionary note, stating, “Na kule barabarani, let’s drive carefully, avoid unnecessary losses. Otherwise asanteni sana, Mungu awabariki, nawapenda jameni.”

The slang phrase “clock it,” commonly used by Gen Z to point something out or signal agreement, has gained popularity across social media platforms.
Ruto’s use of the term sparked conversation online, with many praising his effort to communicate in a relatable and modern tone.
Beyond the lighthearted language, the President’s message carried a serious reminder on road safety. His remarks come at a time when the country has recorded a spike in road accidents during the festive season, often linked to reckless and impaired driving.
The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) echoed similar concerns in a statement shared on its X account.
“The festive statistics are grim for a reason. Road accidents surge during celebrations, and impaired driving is often the cause,” NACADA warned.
The agency stressed that the impact goes beyond individual drivers, adding, “This isn’t just about you behind the wheel. It’s about every family on the road. Celebrate the season. Protect lives. Drive sober.”
As Kenyans travel to celebrate Christmas and usher in the New Year, authorities continue to urge caution, responsibility, and sobriety on the roads to prevent avoidable tragedies during the holiday season.
