Two hundred and twelve out of 233 students who were awarded scholarships by Nyamira County Government got C+ (plus) and above in 2025 KCSE exam, thus qualifying for direct entry to public universities.
Celebrating the sterling performance with the successful students and parents, Governor Amos Nyaribo said he is impressed with the performance of the first cohort, who were under his scholarships.
The function held at Nyamira’s Uhuru Garden was attended by educationists, parents, senior county government staff and Ministry of Education officers.

“I decided to support these needy but bright students to get an education on humanitarian grounds but not on political aggrandizement as others may think,” Governor Nyaribo said.
Nyaribo challenged the students to continue performing well at various levels of their education to attract further support.
“My administration will not support those who continue dropping in class work. Instead, we will replace such learners with the performing ones left out during their selections.”
He asked the learners to take education serious, saying it was the only equalizer between the rich and the poor.
“Don’t grow in physique only, but also in mind as you progress into adulthood. Be considerate and people of respect as you grow in academics,” the governor told the students.
The county boss also disclosed that he is ready to inaugurate the county government bursary fund once it is approved by relevant authorities. “This will enable more needy but bright students access education.”
The governor asked parents to guide their children well.
“As parents you can achieve what you missed during your youth through education of your children,” he told them.
CECM for Education Emily Ongaga attributed the good performance of student under the scholarship to good working relationships with head teachers in schools where the students were learning.
“We subjected the students we sponsored into mentorship programmes that included counselling that led most of them to do well,” Ongaga said.
