A Nairobi-bound matatu was involved in a horrific road accident on Sunday night at Jua Kali in Tetu, Nyeri County.
At least 22 people were injured following the tragic road accident causing panic among locals and other road users.
Witnesses say the vehicle, which had been driven recklessly, lost control and overturned, trapping several passengers under the wreckage.
”Upper Cut has fallen, and we are in Zaina Nyeri. Many people are trapped, and we urgently need help here,” one of the survivor shouted.
Rescue operations were quickly launched, led by local emergency responders and police officers from Nyeri County, with passengers rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.
The matatu was reportedly ferrying a group headed to Zaina Falls for a weekend getaway when the crash occurred, leaving 22 people injured.
The incident sparked outrage online, with many blaming authorities like the NTSA for ignoring repeated complaints about the matatu’s dangerous conduct.
