At least 266 graduands were conferred with certificates on Friday February 27, 2026 in a landmark ceremony aimed at enhancing professionalism and improving service delivery across key sectors of the economy.
The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) graduation ceremony was organized by Kericho National Polytechnic in collaboration with SOT Technical Training Institute, and in partnership with the Tourism Fund.
The initiative sought to formally recognize and certify individuals who have acquired hands-on skills over the years, particularly in the hospitality sector.
The program provided an opportunity for workers in hotels, restaurants, and related establishments to have their experience assessed, validated, and converted into nationally recognized qualifications.
Organizers noted that the move is expected to improve standards within the hospitality industry by aligning practical expertise with professional certification.
Speaking during the event, Tourism Fund Trustee Patrick Muthengi described the graduation as a significant milestone in strengthening Kenya’s tourism workforce.
He emphasized that equipping skilled workers with official certification will not only boost their confidence and employability but also enhance service delivery and competitiveness within the sector.
Muthengi further observed that recognizing prior learning bridges the gap between informal skills acquisition and formal employment opportunities, empowering workers to access better career prospects while contributing to the overall growth of the economy.
The ceremony marked a transformative step for the graduands, many of whom have served in the hospitality industry for years, as they now join the ranks of certified professionals ready to elevate standards in Kenya’s tourism and service sectors.
