Three officials from the Ministry of Labour based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were arrested by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission on 30th November, 2025. They were charged with allegedly extorting money from agents who facilitate the migration of workers travelling to the Middle East.
EACC officers conducted surveillance following a report alleging that Ministry of Labour officials at JKIA routinely solicited and received bribes for each migrant worker travelling to the Middle East.
The three arrested officials include Benson Ouma Okello, Esther Njoki Gakuru, and Denis Marias.

“On 30th November 2025, the Commission carried out an operation in collaboration with one of the agents who had ‘78 migrant workers’ travelling to the Middle East,” the EACC posted on X.
They continued, “At JKIA, the agent met the three Labour Officers manning the booth, and after tabulating the total amount, the officers demanded and received Kshs. 34,000.” The EACC successfully recovered the money from them.
The three suspects will be released on a cash bail of Kshs.50,000 each while the investigation is pending.
