A routine check in Webuye has led to the interception of what authorities believe could be a significant consignment of illegally transported ethanol, raising serious questions about who was behind the operation and where the cargo was headed.
Officers based in Webuye spotted a lorry that appeared to have been abandoned near a petrol station and moved in to investigate.
The vehicle was carrying thirty-two barrels, each with a capacity of 250 litres, filled with a liquid suspected to be ethanol, pointing to a possible case of unlawful transportation and distribution.
The lorry and the entire consignment have since been detained at Webuye Police Station, where the liquid will undergo verification, sampling, and forensic analysis to confirm its nature and origin.
Investigations are now actively underway to establish who owns the vehicle, trace the driver, and identify any other individuals connected to the incident.
The fact that the lorry appeared to have been deliberately abandoned suggests those involved may have sensed they were being watched.
The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to disrupting illegal trade and protecting the public from harmful or illicit substances, warning that such operations will continue to be met with the full force of the law.
