Thirty-three (33) people were on Thursday, September 4 hospitalised at the Nyamira County Referral Hospital after reportedly consuming meat from a dead cow.
The Nyamira County Health Department reported that the incident of acute food poisoning happened in Nyakeore Village in Nyamira South Sub-County.
The county disease surveillance team received the information, visited the village, and evacuated the 33 people to the hospital.
Nyamira County Health CEC Dr. Donald Mogoi confirmed to TV47 Digital that the affected people were treated and are in stable condition.
Today, a joint team of public health and veterinary professionals will visit the place for further contact tracing and case finding.
The County Government of Nyamira, through the Health and Agriculture Departments, has called upon the people of Nyakeore and its surrounding areas to exercise maximum caution, besides reporting any cases of suspected food poisoning relating to the contaminated meat.
