Detectives in Nyahururu Sub County are pursuing suspects linked to the brutal murder of a 72-year-old woman in Mahianyu village, Igwamiti Ward. 

The tragic killing of the elderly victim, Margeret Mumbi Wagate has left the community and neighbors in shock after her lifeless body was discovered lying on her bed. 

Witnesses described a disturbing scene, revealing that she had been sexually assaulted before being brutally murdered. 

Reverend Anthony Maina, a grandson of the deceased and a clergy at the Mahianyu AIPCA Church, described a horrific scene by revealing that her neck had been tied with a shoelace by the unidentified attackers who escaped after committing the crime. 

‘’When I was going on with my normal chores, I received a call from a church member telling me that I should go to my Grandma’s homestead. Upon my arrival, I found the lifeless body of my grandmother lying on bed with signs of being sexually assaulted,’’ said Maina. 

Beatrice Wanjiru, a neighbor and a close friend recounted how she was informed by the deceased’s daughter that she could not trace her via mobile phone, and when she went to check on her whereabouts, she was shocked to find her lifeless body.

She raised alarm that attracted other members of the public and police officers who responded in disbelief.

According to Rev. Maina, the woman was among other AIPCA congregants who were set to meet for a prayer session and fellowship at the nearby church but never turned out.

It emerged she was attacked and killed at night.

Crime scene officers from Nyahururu Police Station visited the home and cordoned off the scene of crime before they removed the body to Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital Mortuary as they launched investigations into the heinous murder.

Residents lamented that cases of insecurity in the area were on the rise and called on security agencies to move with speed and ensure their safety.
