At least 8 people have been confirmed dead after a road accident along the Kericho-Nyamira road at the Tombe Bw’arani area in Nyamira County.

The accident occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at around 9pm, involving a PSV vehicle and a trailer.

“A very tragic road accident occurred at Tombe Bwarani involving a trailer travelling from Ekerenyo and a Shuttle matatu coming from Ikonge.

“Sadly, the accident claimed the lives of passengers on board. Only passengers who were at the back seats survived with severe injuries,” police reported.

Images obtained by TV47 Digital show that one side of the matatu was destroyed, while the trailer, which blocked the road after the incident, suffered minimal damage.

After the accident, other motorists, police, and emergency responder services arrived at the scene to rescue the survivors.

Meanwhile, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo is expected to visit survivors who were admitted to Nyamira County Referral Hospital on Sunday, December 14, 2025. 

Governor Nyaribo will give an update as well as condolences to the relatives of the departed souls, and a message of goodwill to those recovering.

The accident came just hours after former Minister and Lugari member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo passed away in a grisly road accident in the Karai area of Naivasha, along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

According to the bus driver, Jirongo rammed into the bus after attempting to overtake other vehicles that were stuck in a gridlock along the busy road.

“I was heading to Busia from Nairobi, the Mercedes did not give way, the driver of the Mercedes saw that there were vehicles on his route and decided to come my way, and that is what resulted in the accident,” the driver said.
