Kenya’s legal profession marked a historic milestone today as 920 newly trained advocates were admitted to the bar, the largest cohort ever to join the Roll of Advocates in a single sitting.
During the ceremony, LSK President Faith Odhiambo delivered a powerful message to the new advocates, reminding them that they are stepping into the profession at a defining moment for the country.
“You are a generation that refuses to work in silence,” she said. “As you enter the law practice, remember that justice is not a slogan it is a long-term commitment. Ours is a profession built on standing up for one another.”
She noted that the latest cohort joins the bar at a time when the nation is once again negotiating the value of rights, calling on the new advocates to be both guardians and innovators.
“The legal profession has often been accused of elitism,” she said. “But you have reached this point through perseverance even taking to the streets and using hashtags to demand change. You are a generation entering the legal field with immense work before you.”
Among those admitted was Linus Kaikai the seasoned and celebrated journalist and Director of Strategy at Royal Media Services. His entry into the legal profession was recognised during the ceremony, with Odhiambo urging him along with all inducted to apply the lessons learned with integrity and purpose.
“The law needs you not just as critics,” she said, “but as people who craft and provide solutions.”
The admission of the 920 advocates signals a growing appetite for legal expertise in a country grappling with evolving governance challenges, social justice demands, and a citizenry increasingly aware of its rights.
For the newest members of the bar, the ceremony marks both a celebration of achievement and a call to action a reminder that the pursuit of justice is not merely a career, but a lifelong service.
