A dramatic highway bust along the Maai Mahiu–Nairobi Road ended with the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of 9 90-kilograms sacks of cannabis sativa in a covert operation led by Kenyan anti-narcotics units.
The sting, executed by a multi-agency team of detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime and Anti-Narcotics units, in collaboration with officers from Mutarakwa Police Post, was intelligence-led and marked a significant blow to the narcotics trade in the region.
The suspects — Minja Jimmy and Bernard Nyabero Nyakangi, both aged 37 — were intercepted driving a white Toyota Noah, registration number KCX 728Q, in which nine 90-kilogram sacks of cannabis were concealed under black polythene sheeting.
“This seizure is a testament to our commitment to dismantling organized drug trafficking networks that threaten the safety and future of our youth,” said a senior officer who participated in the operation but requested anonymity due to the ongoing investigation.
The suspects were first taken to Mutarakwa Police Post, where the vehicle and evidence were booked. They were later transferred to the DCI Headquarters for further interrogation and processing.
Authorities have praised the swift coordination of the agencies involved and promised continued vigilance. “This is not just a win for law enforcement, but a step forward in safeguarding our communities,” added the officer.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the narcotics ring.
