The Automobile Association of Kenya (AA Kenya) has launched a new International Driving Permit (IDP) that allows Kenyan drivers to operate vehicles in over 150 countries without needing local driving tests. This move aims to curb the rising cases of Kenyans facing legal issues abroad due to counterfeit permits.
The new IDP is tamper-proof, features strong security measures, and is digital, enabling Interpol to verify it online instantly. According to Francis Theuri, CEO of AA Kenya, this will make it easier for Kenyans traveling for work, studies, business, or leisure to rent vehicles from international agencies and for insurance companies abroad to confirm coverage for foreign drivers.
The IDP is expected to create opportunities, especially for young people seeking jobs that involve driving, as the government encourages more Kenyans to travel and work abroad. You can apply for the IDP by visiting any of AA Kenya‘s 95+ branches nationwide.
