Actress Bernice Njeri Gachomba, popularly known as Njambi from the comedy series The Real House-helps of Kawangware, has publicly spoken about her experience as a survivor of gender-based violence.
The well-known Kenyan actress took to Instagram to share her journey of healing and resilience.
Accompanied by photographs documenting her transformation, she reflected on the difficult period she endured and how it ultimately shaped her into a stronger person.
In her post, she wrote about losing parts of herself during that painful chapter but discovering inner strength through survival.
She positioned herself as living proof that overcoming such trauma is possible, declaring herself a survivor both then and now.
“It’s the third slide for me. I lost pieces of myself in that pain…But I found a stronger version of me on the other side. Survivor then, survivor now. As we close the 16 Days of Activism, I stand as proof that survival is strength,” Njambi wrote on her Instagram page.
Her message coincided with the closing of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, a global initiative dedicated to combating gender-based violence.
Njambi has built a strong following in Kenya’s entertainment industry, with her memorable performance on the popular comedy show cementing her status as a beloved figure among audiences.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual global campaign that takes place from November 25 through December 10, International Human Rights Day.
The campaign was launched by activists in 1991 at the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute and has since grown from a small group to engage thousands of organizations across nearly 190 countries.
The 2025 campaign theme is “Unite to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,” focusing on the growing issue of online harassment, cyberstalking, and technology-facilitated abuse targeting women.
The campaign is led by UN Women in partnership with civil society, governments, and individuals, with the goal of raising awareness, calling for change, and mobilizing action to end violence against women and girls.
