FKF Premier League side AFC Leopards is in mourning following the death of the club’s Secretary General, Gilbert Andugu.
Andugu, who was serving his first term in office, passed away after a prolonged battle with health complications. Over the past year, he had been in and out of hospital as he sought treatment for his condition.
Due to his deteriorating health, Andugu had earlier announced that he would not be seeking re-election in the upcoming club polls, citing personal reasons.
In an official statement, the club expressed its grief and extended condolences to Andugu’s family, friends, and the wider football community.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing on of our Secretary General, Mr. Gilbert Andugu. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to Andugu’s family, friends, and relatives. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement read.
Andugu’s leadership at AFC Leopards, one of Kenya’s most storied football clubs, was marked by dedication and a passion for the growth of the team both on and off the pitch. His passing is a significant loss not only to Ingwe supporters but also to the Kenyan football community at large.
Funeral arrangements and further communication from the family and the club are expected to be announced in due course.
