Affordable housing is more than just a project; it’s a mission to restore living dignity by delivering decent shelter to those who could not afford it before and providing individuals and families with a foundation for dignity, safety and hope.
The contribution from those fortunate enough to have a salary and good housing is not just a deduction; its an opportunity to lift up our brothers and sisters who, through no fault of their own, have struggled to afford decent housing.
To those opposing the project, please see this as an investment in our collective future where lifting others is not just a responsibility but a privilege.
No one chooses to live in inadequate conditions, and together, we can ensure no one has to.
Kudos Your Excellence President William Ruto for your courage and foresight in championing this initiative. It takes a bold leadership to prioritize the well-being of those who have long struggled to access decent housing.
In June 2025, a new chapter began for 1,080 families—mostly former residents of the Mukuru Kwa Njenga informal settlements after President Ruto handed them with keys to their new homes at the New Mukuru Housing Estate.
The families could not contain their joy as their long-held dream of home ownership finally became a reality, thanks to the Affordable Housing Programme.
Other affordable housing projects are ongoing across the country.
Just recently, the ambitious project received a significant boost from Saudi investment institutions, with two major development banks committing to support the government’s housing agenda through strategic financing partnerships.
The Saudi Export-Import Bank became the latest Saudi institution to join Kenya’s housing initiative when CEO Eng. Saad Al-Khalb signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shelter Afrique Managing Director Thierno-Habib Hann in Nairobi this August.
This partnership follows a similar commitment by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), whose President Abdullah KH AlMusaibeeh had earlier signed an Affordable Housing Financing agreement to support the Government of Kenya’s housing objectives.
