A little-known secondary school that has long supported needy girls in Makueni County has emerged as one of the top performers in the 2025 KCSE examinations, recording the best improvement in the region.
Makindu Girls High School posted an impressive positive deviation of 1.5, improving its mean score from 5.5 in 2024 to 7.0 in 2025, a remarkable academic leap that has placed the school among the most improved institutions this year.

Located in the interior parts of Makueni County, the school has also recorded a major milestone, with 58 per cent of its candidates qualifying for university admission.
School principal Ms. Mary Muisyo attributes the success to unwavering commitment, teamwork, prayer and a shared determination to uplift village girls who have long been disadvantaged by the region’s harsh terrain and limited resources.

“We believed in these girls, many of whom come from very humble backgrounds. Through discipline, guidance and faith, we set out to change their story and the results now speak for themselves,” said Ms. Muisyo.
Among the top achievers are Faith Mumo, Beatrice Kilonzo and Trace Mutio, who scored A- and intend to pursue careers in medical-related fields.
The students expressed gratitude to the school management and teachers for consistent mentorship, guidance and support throughout their academic journey.
The results mark a turning point for Makindu Girls High School, positioning it as a rising academic force and a beacon of hope for disadvantaged girls in rural Makueni County.
