Former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has demanded an apology from a Muslim cleric in Takaungu, Kilifi County over remarks linking her and family to evil spirits (jinis).
This is after the cleric, Mohamed Khamis Mwajamandah alias Mohamed, publicly stated during a public gathering in Takaungu during last week’s Friday prayers that Jumwa and her family were thriving due to evil spirits popularly known in Coast as Majini.
Jumwa, through her lawyer Alfred Omwancha of A.M Omwancha and company Advocates has filed a demand letter to Mwajamanda demanding an apology within seven days or else she would move to court to file a defamation suit.
In the letter, Omwancha said his client complained that on April 30, 2025 Mohamed through his Tiktok media platform, he maliciously uttered and used defamatory words aimed at maligning and defaming the former CS.
Mohamed alleged that Jumwa being a politician and having been appointed as Chairperson of Kenya Road Boards, was using the position to be rude, and arrogant.
He said Mohamed portrayed his client as a person who entirely depends on evil spirits and engages herself in devilish activities to achieve her political goals and success.
Omwancha said the Muslim leader defamed the former CS and the reports were spread across social and mainstream media platforms which has sparked debates, comments, aspersions as negative implications concerning the person and character of his client and caused a significant damage to her reputation.
“The usage of the said words was driven by spite, malice, ill will, political hatred, and hidden vendetta which has since injured and lowered our client’s credit and reputation in the eyes of the right-thinking members of Public, friends, family members, political fraternity and nation at large,” he said.
The lawyer said if he does not receive his admission of liability, apology and an assurance as aforesaid to enable him quantify his client’s damages within seven days from the date of the letter they have instructions to move to court and institute legal proceedings against Mohamed.
Mohamed has since been served with the demand letter.
All this began after the Muslim community in Takaungu area of Kilifi North Sub County condemned the former Gender Cabinet Secretary for degrading them and their faith for criticising a burial of her relative.
Jumwa reportedly made several social media posts accusing the Muslim leaders of burying one of her relatives at night.
Zakaria Charo Kirao, 30, who was Jumwa’s relative died from injuries he sustained after being beaten by a mob when he allegedly killed 75-year-old Ainain Twalib and ate parts of his body including the intestines, liver and brain in Takaungu area last month.
Mohamed Khamis, Ustadh Mahad Ali and Bakari Juma said that Jumwa’s social media utterances were aimed at waging a divide between Muslims and Christians in Takaungu area adding that her relative was buried in line with Muslim rights.
However, during their reaction to Jumwa’s utterances Mohamed publicly announced that she possessed evil spirits.
