AK,ADAK issue final reminder on mandatory anti-doping tests for Tokyo bound athletes

Athletics Kenya has issued a final reminder to all athletes hoping to compete at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, stressing the importance of compliance with anti-doping regulations as a prerequisite for selection.

All athletes intending to participate in the national trials for the Tokyo World Championships have until this Saturday, 24th May, to partake in a first no-notice out-of-competition anti-doping test.

According to World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, specifically rule 15.5.1(c)(ii), every athlete under Athletics Kenya’s jurisdiction must complete their first no-notice out-of-competition anti-doping test by Saturday, May 24, 2025. This measure is part of global efforts to ensure fair play and uphold the integrity of athletics.

In memo sent by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) and Athletics Kenya, athletes who will not have complied by Saturday will automatically be locked out of the national trials.

The federation is urging all athletes to remain at their declared whereabouts and be available for testing, warning that missed or unsuccessful attempts will not be tolerated.

This strict adherence to anti-doping protocols is in line with international standards and reflects Kenya’s commitment to clean sport. The reminder comes as the country prepares for the Athletics Kenya Trials, which will determine the final team for the prestigious global event in Tokyo.

Athletics Kenya is encouraging all eligible athletes to cooperate fully with anti-doping officials and to prioritize compliance with the outlined requirements.

The federation reiterates that only those who meet all anti-doping criteria by the deadline will be considered for selection, ensuring that Team Kenya upholds the highest standards of integrity and sportsmanship on the world stage.
