Angry bodaboda riders torch matatu after colleague is killed in Gitaru accident

Police in Kabete Constituency, Kiambu County are investigating an incident where a bodaboda rider was killed after being hit by a PSV matatu in Gitaru.

Reports indicate that after the accident, angry bodaboda riders descended on the matatu, plying the Kikuyu route, and set it on fire.

According to witnesses, the accident happened after the matatu driver failed to follow traffic rules, taking the wrong side of the road. The matatu driver was allegedly trying to bypass traffic jam occasioned by ongoing construction works when he hit the bodaboda rider.

Residents are now calling for speeding up of the construction of Gitaru Interchange, in a bid to eliminate the frequent traffic congestion, which they say has been causing many tragedies due to a series of accidents.

They, however, condemned the act of burning the matatu, urging others to stop being driven by anger and instead follow the rule of law.

The body of the deceased rider was taken to Thogoto Hospital Mortuary while the wreckage of the vehicle was towed to King’eero Police Station.
