Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) is once again under scrutiny following the mysterious death of a patient, a development that comes just four months after the tragic killing of Gilbert Kinyua within its premises.
The latest incident, confirmed by KNH, involves a 54-year-old male patient whose body was found motionless in Ward 7B on Thursday afternoon, July 17.
The beddings in the ward were reportedly blood-soaked. Disturbingly, Ward 7B is located directly opposite the ward where 39-year-old Gilbert Kinyua was found dead with a slit throat four months ago.
KNH CEO William Sigilai issued an official statement confirming the incident: “We are deeply saddened to confirm an incident regarding the tragic death of a patient at Kenyatta National Hospital. On the afternoon of July 17, 2025, at around 2 pm, immediately after visiting hours, a patient was discovered in a medical ward in blood-soaked beddings. The patient was examined and certified dead.”
Sigilai added that the matter has been reported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other government security agencies, extending thoughts and prayers to the patient’s family.
Officers from the DCI Homicide Division and forensic experts from the Government Chemist Department have arrived at the scene to gather evidence. KNH management has confirmed it is cooperating fully with all investigative agencies to ensure a thorough probe.
The repeated incidents have sparked widespread concern among Kenyans regarding patient safety at the hospital, with many pointing to the apparent lack of functional CCTV cameras as a significant cause for alarm.
