Arsenal maintain perfect Champions League run as Man City stun Real Madrid

Arsenal maintained their perfect run in the UEFA Champions League with a commanding 3–0 victory over Club Brugge, strengthening their position at the top of the league-phase standings with six wins from six.

But the headline result of the night came in Madrid, where Manchester City produced a resilient comeback to secure a 2–1 win over Real Madrid—an achievement that guaranteed Pep Guardiola’s side a place in the knockout phase or the play-off round.

Paris Saint-Germain also confirmed their progression after a hard-fought goalless draw away to Athletic Club, with goalkeeper Unai Simón stealing the spotlight through a string of superb saves to deny the defending champions.

Elsewhere, the final night of 2025 Champions League action delivered drama across Europe. Ajax claimed their first points of the campaign with a late flourish, overturning Qarabağ’s lead through goals from Oscar Gloukh and Anton Gaaei before sealing the win in a dominant final spell.

Danish champions Copenhagen edged Villarreal 3–2 thanks to a 90th-minute strike from Andreas Cornelius, while Juventus secured a second consecutive win after Weston McKennie and Jonathan David struck in the second half to beat Pafos.

Newcastle were minutes away from a crucial away win at Bayer Leverkusen before Alejandro Grimaldo thundered in a late equaliser for the hosts. Borussia Dortmund were also held after Bodø/Glimt twice came from behind to snatch a resilient 2–2 draw.

Arsenal’s night was lifted further by the return of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, out of action since January. Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli both found the net in what was another confident performance for Mikel Arteta’s side.

In Spain, Erling Haaland marked his 50th Champions League start with a calmly taken penalty as City turned the game around, reaffirming their status as one of the tournament’s top contenders.

Benfica wrapped up the evening with a convincing victory over Napoli, keeping their qualification hopes alive in a competitive group.

The Champions League league phase now enters the late-season push, with several teams facing must-win scenarios when action resumes.
