ATC season 10 set to ignite youth innovation across the continent

The Africa Tech Challenge (ATC) season 10 is set to kick off on July 28, 2025, at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), under the powerful theme “Dream and invent your future.” This landmark event marks a decade of youth-driven innovation and industrial transformation across the continent.

Twelve elite teams from across Africa will gather for a high-stakes, four-week technology skills showdown aimed at closing the continent’s skills gap and boosting industrial innovation and youthful energy.

” This year’s theme brings together 12 elite teams of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) students from across Africa to celebrate ten years of impact, innovation, and industrial transformation,” noted the event organizers.

Dubbed “The ATC STORY@10,” the milestone reflects how far the initiative has come and aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 vision of an Africa empowered by science, technology, and innovation.

According to Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, who is the Principal Secretary for Kenya’s State Department for TVET, ” ATC Season 10 is more than just machines and measurements; it is about making history, realizing dreams and unleashing potentials.”

Muoria also confirmed that Kenya will compete with 13 other countries including Ghana, Egypt, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Cameroon.

Additionally, the project manager of TVET at Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), Zhao Leilei, emphasized that AVIC International Holding Corporation, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, will spearhead the ATC initiative.

“This is more than just competition. It is a continental classroom, a bridge to a better tomorrow.” He added, ” At the AVIC, we believe in empowering African youth to shape their future. ATC lays the groundwork for future engineers, investors, and entrepreneurs-leaders who will transform Africa.”

Over the past ten years, ATC has trained over 1,300 youth, provided hands-on certification, and supported vocational modernization through advanced equipment.

This year’s participants will receive expert-led training in CNC turning, CAD software, mobile app development, and more.

The grand finale will be held on August 24th, where teams will showcase their prototypes and compete for scholarships, equipment, and national recognition.

As the organizers affirm, “The Africa Tech Challenge remains a shining example of successful public-private partnerships, leveraging corporate investment and government policy to close Africa’s technical skills gap.”
