Athletics Kenya (AK) Central Region has announced that the second AK Track and Field Weekend Meet will take place from January 15 to 17, 2026, at the Thika Stadium.
The meet will officially open the 2026 Track and Field calendar, following the cancellation of several events in the season’s first meet in Mumias.
As a result, the Thika edition will now feature a full competition programme, accommodating all events that were not held earlier.
Athletes will compete across a wide range of track, field, and combined events, including sprints, middle and long-distance races, hurdles, steeplechase, race walking, throws, jumps, and the Decathlon/heptathlon. Both men and women categories will be contested in all disciplines.
The comprehensive line-up includes:
100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, 110m/100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, race walk, hammer, javelin, discus, shot put, long jump, high jump and triple jump.
AK has also confirmed a standardised prize structure across all categories, with winners earning Ksh 20,000, runners-up Ksh 15,000, and third-place finishers Ksh 10,000.
Registration for the event is open through an online portal, and athletes have been advised to sign up using the link shared by the organisers.
Participants will be required to collect their bib numbers on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Thika Stadium between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Officials have emphasised that no registration or bib issuance will be done on competition days, urging athletes to adhere to the set timelines.
With the meet now carrying an expanded programme and prize incentives, organisers expect strong participation as athletes launch their 2026 season.
