Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has publicly distanced himself from a recent social media post by blogger and political activist Maverick Aoko, which targeted the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, particularly his wife, Ida Odinga.

In a clear effort to quell rising impressions and speculation, Babu Owino firmly denied any involvement in or prior knowledge of Aoko’s statements. He emphasized that the blogger acts independently.

“Maverick Aoko is my friend and my fierce supporter of which I’m truly grateful and appreciative of. Oftentimes when she posts on X, people are under the impression that I am the one who tells her what to post,” Babu stated “Maverick is an independent minded person. I do not know her sources and have never told her to attack the Odinga Family.”

The legislator went further to express deep personal affection and respect for the Odinga family, painting a picture of a warm, familial relationship with Mama Ida. He described her as a maternal figure who has shown him nothing but kindness.

“Winnie Odinga is my friend, Junior is my Friend and Rosemary is my friend too, how can I insult their only Mother? Mama Ida loves me like her own son, welcomes me home and gives me food whenever I visit her, I can never insult such a mum.She’s been good to me and I love her,” Babu Owino said.

The MP’s comments come as a direct response to a lengthy post made by Maverick Aoko a few days ago. In her post, Aoko made a series of serious and accusatory allegations against Ida Odinga, insinuating political meddling and making deeply personal claims about the family.

The blogger urged Mama Ida to refrain from politics and focus on mourning her late husband, Raila Odinga.

Aoko’s statement included allegations about internal ODM party dynamics, historical political events, and personal family matters.

She concluded by warning Ida Odinga to “retreat and allow sanity,” stating that she would only be respected if she stepped back from political involvement.

Meanwhile Babu Owino has move swiftly and unequivocal to disavow the attack highlighting the sensitive nature of the allegations and his desire to maintain a respectful relationship with the Odinga family.

Thing however comes amid ongoing tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and its associated circles following the death of its charismatic leader, Raila Odinga.
