Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Wednesday November 26, 2025, travelled to Bondo, Siaya County to pay a visit to Mama Ida Odinga, widow to the former Prime Minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga.
This took place at her residence in Opoda Farm and was part of a wave of visits by leaders who have turned up since the passing of the former Prime Minister.
During his visit, Babu Owino presented Mama Ida with a Holy Bible and offered bulls, symbolic gifts meant to convey spiritual support and cultural honour.

In his remarks, the Member of Parliament described the Bible as “a sacred guide to illuminate her path, strengthen her spirit, and offer light through every turn of her journey.” He added by saying the bulls, in the same spirit of respect, were offered as a “traditional gesture of honor.”
Beyond the visit to Opoda, Babu was also accompanied to Kang’o ka Jaramogi, the burial ground and legacy site of the late leader. He described the site as “rich in history, legacy, and honor,” underlying the symbolic nature of his visit beyond personal condolence.

The combination of a Christian Holy Bible, and traditional cattle, underscores a dual-layered symbolism. On one hand , the Bible, a spiritual and religious item, communicates condolence, hope, and support in grief.

On the other hand, the bulls reflect traditional Kenyan cultural respect and honor especially in communities where livestock is a meaningful symbol.
