Baby on board: Passenger gives birth while travelling from Nairobi

Passengers aboard the Ena Coach bus were left in awe and joy on Thursday May 15, 2025 in the morning when a woman gave birth mid-journey while traveling from Nairobi along the Nyamira – Kendu Bay route. The unexpected delivery turned the routine trip into a moment of unity, compassion, and joy.

The incident occurred shortly after the bus, registration number KDK 035U, departed Nairobi at 7:30 a.m. As the journey progressed, the woman went into labor, prompting immediate action from fellow passengers and the bus crew.

A woman who seemed to have prior experience with childbirth quickly stepped in to help. She calmly guided the mother through labor, assisting her onto the floor of the bus to ensure a safe and hygienic delivery space. The driver, upon being alerted, pulled over to the roadside to allow room for the safe delivery.

Moments later, the newborn arrived safely, much to the relief and delight of all on board. Another passenger also joined the effort, ensuring the mother and baby were cared for until professional medical help could be reached. They were later transported to a nearby hospital for postnatal care.

Ena Coach issued an official statement confirming the incident, expressing deep gratitude for the teamwork and quick thinking displayed by the crew and passengers.

“We are delighted to share that one of our esteemed passengers safely delivered a baby this morning while traveling aboard our bus, KDK 035U. The baby was later taken to a nearby hospital for after-birth attention. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our crew and fellow passengers for their incredible support and swift response,” the statement read.

One passenger praised the driver and the woman who led the delivery, saying, “The driver deserves a medal. The lady who assisted looked like a trained nurse. Kudos to her.”

The incident, occurring just days after Mother’s Day, has touched many across Kenya, with social media users applauding the act of solidarity and kindness among strangers.
