Baringo resident sentenced to 20 years in jail for killing wife after drinking spree

A Matingot villager in Baringo County has been convicted of brutally murdering his wife Florence Kibor, whose death horrified Kaptich sub-location’s community.

The tragedy on May 30, 2023, sparked anguish and anger in Baringo Central. The prosecution’s strong evidence convinced Justice R. B. Ngetich of the High Court in Kabarnet to convict Chemjor of murder.

Silas Barchiba Chemjor Chemjor was charged with murder under Kenya’s Penal Code Sections 203 and 204 of July 2023. The court determined that releasing him on bond could risk public safety and the accused’s life since locals referred to him as unpredictable and violent.

After being denied bail, he remained in detention throughout the trial. Vivian Chepchieng, who lived next door to the couple, told the court that she heard what sounded like calls for aid coming from Chemjor’s residence.

During postmortem, pathologist Dr. Wangare Wambugu, found that Kibor died from significant pelvic hemorrhage from acute and blunt trauma during the assault.

The court found the evidence unbroken and the testimonials convincing. The Judge concluded that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Chemjor killed Florence Kibor deliberately.
