In a stunning development that has sent ripples through Kenyan football, Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba has resigned from her position as the Women’s national team coach.
Her unexpected departure, effective immediately, is reportedly due to a lack of crucial support from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Odemba’s resignation comes at a critical juncture for the Harambee Starlets, just days before they kick off their CECAFA campaign.
The national team is scheduled to open their tournament against Burundi on June 12th in Dar es Salaam, followed by matches against South Sudan three days later and hosts Tanzania in the concluding round-robin fixture.
Often hailed as one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Harambee Starlets, Odemba’s decision follows the team’s recent 5-1 international friendly defeat to Morocco in Tangier.

During her tenure, which began on September 2, 2023, she significantly elevated the Starlets’ profile, leading to notable progress and increased visibility on the continental stage.
Her exit leaves the FKF’s technical department in a scramble to find a suitable replacement. Odemba also serves as the head coach for Kenya Police Bullets FC, adding another layer to the federation’s urgent task.
Sources indicate that the FKF is reportedly considering appointing Kibera Soccer Women’s coach David Vijago as interim head coach.
He would be assisted by former Vihiga Queens coach Alex Alumirah and ex-Starlets captain and coach Ann Aluoch.
While these names have been discussed internally, their official appointment awaits approval from the FKF National Executive Committee (NEC).
