The Odinga family is in mourning again following the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga, the younger sister of Raila Odinga..
Kisumu Woman Representative, Ruth Odinga who is also younger sister of Beryl broke the news in a heartfelt Facebook post that has left many Kenyans mourning sympathysing with the larger Odinga family.
“It is with a heavy heart, but accepting the will of God we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga,” Ruth Odinga wrote on her Facebook page.
The tragic loss comes almost a month after the family laid to rest Beryl’s elder brother, former Prime Minister the late Raila Odinga.
Beryl had been unwell before her passing. She was the daughter of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mary Ajuma Oginga, two towering figures in Kenya’s political history.
She was a devoted mother to three children, namely Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai.
Beryl was unable to attend her brother’s burial last month due to her illness, making her sudden death even more poignant for the family.
She is survived by her siblings, including Senator Oburu Oginga, former Prime Minister the late Raila Odinga, Ruth Odinga, and Akinyi Wenwa, among others.
The family also includes her sisters-in-law Dr Anne Oburu, Dr Canon Ida Odinga, Hon Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu.
ODM’s party leader, Oburu Odinga, has written on his X platform mourning his younger sister.
“It is with heavy hearts, yet in humble acceptance of God’s will, that we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga, my sister,” Oburu Odinga said.
In the Facebook announcement, Ruth acknowledged the immense void Beryl’s passing has left in their lives. However, the family has found comfort in their faith, believing that Beryl now rests peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
Ruth expressed gratitude for the time the family was privileged to spend with Beryl.
She reflected on the profound impact her sister had on everyone who knew her, celebrating a life that touched many hearts.
The Odinga family continues to receive condolences from well-wishers across the country as they cope with this second loss in such a short time. Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
