In a groundbreaking move poised to transform lives across Kenya’s Coastal region, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has unveiled 2,000 high-paying overseas job opportunities specifically for boda boda operators.
Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, May 23, CS Mutua announced that several companies from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), are looking to recruit Kenyan delivery riders—commonly known as boda boda operators—offering monthly, tax-free salaries ranging from Ksh80,000 to Ksh120,000.
“This is a golden chance for our youth, especially those in the boda boda sector, to elevate their standards of living while gaining international exposure,” Mutua stated. “We are not just exporting labor; we are exporting skill and determination.”
In addition to the attractive salaries, the Dubai-based employers have promised comprehensive medical insurance and accommodation for the riders, making the offer even more appealing. Applicants must be under 38 years old and possess either a motorcycle license or a valid driving license, along with a passport or proof of application.
“This is the opportunity I’ve been praying for,” said Ali Mwinyi, a boda boda rider in Mombasa. “The pay is more than four times what I earn here. I just need to finalize my passport, and I’m applying immediately.”
The announcement also included openings for gardeners and construction helpers. Gardeners will earn between Ksh31,000 and Ksh45,000 per month, while construction helpers will receive Ksh35,000. Both roles also come with free accommodation, food and medical coverage.
However, it is the delivery rider positions that have sparked the most excitement, with long queues expected at interview centers across the Coast.
As Mutua emphasized, “This is not just employment. It’s empowerment.”
Interested applicants have been urged to prepare the required documentation ahead of the interview dates, which will be announced soon. The recruitment drive signals a bold step in Kenya’s labor export strategy—and for many boda boda riders, the road ahead just got a lot more promising.
