A man has been arrested in Kisumu after police officers busted him while transporting a significant quantity of cannabis sativa (bhang).
The arrest occurred on Wednesday, April 9, by police from Obunga Police Station in Kisumu Central Sub-County, following a tip-off from a member of the public who had flagged suspicious activity in the area.
Officers on patrol stopped the suspect, who was travelling on a motorcycle, and conducted a search of the vehicle.
Hidden inside yellow polythene bags, they discovered 12 bales of a green leafy substance, which preliminary assessments indicate is cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody at Obunga Police Station, where he is being held pending formal processing and subsequent arraignment in court.
Both the motorcycle and the recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits to support the prosecution’s case.
The operation emphasizes the critical role that community policing plays in the fight against drug trafficking.
The National Police Service has commended the member of the public whose timely information made the arrest possible, and has called on residents to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities through the available police tip-off channels.
Drug trafficking remains a growing concern in Kisumu County, and authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on individuals involved in the trade.
