One person has been confirmed dead in Makueni County after he was swept away by the swollen River Thange in Kibwezi following an overnight downpour.
Confirming the incident, Maikuu Area Chief Nicholas Mwonga said the deceased was heading home on his motorbike when he attempted to cross the flooded river and was overwhelmed by the fast-rising waters.
The incident was reported at around 9:00 p.m., prompting an immediate search operation.
After hours of searching, the body was recovered a few kilometers downstream from the crossing point. It was later moved to Makindu Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.
Chief Mwonga has since cautioned residents against attempting to cross flooded rivers, especially during the ongoing rainy season, urging the public to prioritize safety during heavy rains.
