Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, defeating Mexican side Monterrey 2-1 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Tuesday.

Star striker Serhou Guirassy was the hero of the night, bagging a crucial brace to send BVB through.

Guirassy showcased his clinical finishing by netting both goals in the first half, striking in the 14th and 24th minutes to give Dortmund a commanding lead.

Although Niko Kovac’s side conceded early in the second half, they held firm under intense pressure to secure the victory.

Guirassy’s exceptional performance not only sealed the win but also earned him the prestigious Player of the Match title with an impressive 8.5 rating.

The Guinean international now boasts three goals in the Club World Cup 2025, continuing his breakout year after leading the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League top-scorer list and consistently delivering crucial goals for Dortmund throughout the season.

Aside from Guirassy’s heroics, Karim Adeyemi and Pascal Groß also had strong outings for BVB. However, a significant blow for Dortmund is the absence of Jobe Bellingham in the quarter-finals, as he will miss the match after receiving a yellow card.

Borussia Dortmund maintains their undefeated record in the Club World Cup 2025, having not lost a competitive match since April 2025.

Their advancement to the final eight sets up a highly anticipated clash against Real Madrid next. This encounter will undoubtedly be Kovac’s side’s biggest test yet as they aim to secure a coveted semi-final spot in the tournament.
