The Director of Public Prosecutions has confirmed a major breakthrough in the 13-year-old murder case of Agnes Wanjiru, announcing the arrest of a British suspect in the United Kingdom.
In a press statement by the DPP, the accused, whose identity has not been disclosed, is currently being held in police custody in the UK and is scheduled to make a court appearance in London on 14th November 2025 for an extradition bail hearing.
A case management session has been set for 9th December 2025.
This marks a milestone in the pursuit of justice and follows sustained collaborative efforts between Kenyan and British law enforcement agencies. The arrest comes six weeks after the DPP initiated formal extradition proceedings to bring the suspect to Kenya to face charges.
The legal process began on 16th September 2025 when the DPP successfully obtained an arrest warrant from a Nairobi court. Three weeks later, on 9th October 2025, all required extradition documentation was forwarded through the Office of the Attorney General in Kenya to British authorities.
“Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old mother who worked as a freelance hairdresser, vanished on 31st March 2012 after being last seen at the Lions Court Lodge in Nanyuki. Her disappearance sparked concern among family and friends, but the grim discovery came more than two months later when her body was found in a septic tank at the same lodge on 5th June 2012,” read the press release.
The tragic discovery triggered widespread public outrage and intensified demands for accountability in a case that has haunted the victim’s family for over a decade.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has emphasized its steadfast commitment to ensuring justice for Agnes Wanjiru and her family. Through continued partnership with international authorities, the ODPP aims to hold those responsible fully accountable for this crime.
