Broad-based or power grab? Barrack Muluka slams UDA-ODM Alliance and Sakaja drama

Political analyst and Secretary-General of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) party, Dr. Barrack Muluka, has issued a scathing critique of the recent political realignments and governance trends in Kenya.

Speaking on Spice FM’s The Situation Room on Wednesday September 3, 2025, Muluka described the newly coined “broad-based government” as a constitutional fraud that only pretends to promote unity while actively undermining democratic principles.

Muluka pointed to the recent joint parliamentary group meeting between UDA and ODM as a prime example of “contempt for the law,” asserting that the collaboration signals a willingness by political elites to bend legal frameworks to suit their interests.

“This so-called broad-based government is an illegal entity that pretends to unite where there was no disunity,” he said.

“It’s a loud statement of their willingness to commit illegalities, subvert justice, and operate outside the Constitution. This kind of politics pushes the country toward nihilism.”

Turning to the growing political fallout in Nairobi, Muluka referenced the Sakaja saga, the mounting allegations, and governance concerns within Nairobi County.

He argued that the political chaos, amplified by vocal figures such as Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, and Caleb Amisi, signals that electioneering is already in full swing.

In a metaphorical rebuke, Muluka said, “When the turtle leaves the sea to warn us the crocodile is unwell, it knows the truth.”

He suggested that insiders calling out the rot within county governance must be speaking from informed positions.

He added that lifting the lid on what’s happening in Nairobi will likely expose the “untouchables”, a challenge not unique to Nairobi, but common across multiple counties.

Muluka’s remarks raise serious questions about the state of Kenya’s political ethics, the direction of its governance, and whether current alliances are truly about unity or simply power consolidation cloaked in a false narrative.
