Bull elephant saved after arrow attack in Tsavo East National Park

A bull elephant in Tsavo East National Park is alive today, thanks to the swift response of Tsavo Trust’s Tembo 2 monitoring team.

While on routine patrol in Mtito Andei area in Makueni County, the team spotted the giant animal with an arrow lodged in its side likely from human-wildlife conflict or attempted poaching.

For hours, they kept watch, ensuring the animal stayed calm until the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust vets arrived.

The arrow was successfully removed, the wound treated and the elephant is now on the road to recovery.

A team of vets from KWS and the Tsavo Trust’s Tembo 2 attended to the wounded jumbo, succesfully removing the arrow.

This rescue underscores the power of real-time monitoring and collaboration in protecting Tsavo’s iconic wildlife.
