Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has announced plans to install a CT Scan machine at Webuye Hospital as the county mourns sixteen people who lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Webuye – Kitale road earlier this month.

Speaking during a memorial service held in honour of the victims of the March 9, 2026 accident, Lusaka said the county government was taking steps to strengthen emergency medical response in the region to better handle critical cases.

He noted that the installation of the CT Scan machine will significantly enhance diagnostic services at Webuye Hospital and enable residents to access specialized medical care closer to home.

“This investment will greatly enhance our diagnostic capacity and emergency response. Our people deserve timely and quality medical care when emergencies occur,” Lusaka said.

The governor described the accident as a painful tragedy that had shaken the entire county, noting that the loss of sixteen lives had left families and the wider Bungoma community in deep mourning.

“When sixteen lives are lost in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner, it is not just the affected families who grieve — the entire county mourns. Bungoma stands with the bereaved families during this difficult time,” he said.

Lusaka also commended religious leaders for organizing the memorial service and for providing spiritual support to the affected families. He said the prayers and guidance offered by the clergy had helped bring comfort and hope to the grieving community.

At the same time, the governor called on motorists and other road users to exercise caution and responsibility on the roads to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“Too many families continue to lose their loved ones on our roads. Every life lost is one too many. We must all work together to ensure our roads are safe for everyone,” Lusaka said.

Beyond mourning the victims, Lusaka said the county government remains committed to strengthening healthcare services and improving emergency preparedness, noting that investments in medical equipment and health infrastructure are key to saving lives.

The accident, which occurred near Malaha area, left several people injured and sparked widespread grief across Bungoma County as leaders and residents continue to call for greater road safety measures.
