Bungoma DEB and Christ the King Junior Schools in Bungoma County have recorded outstanding performance in the just released Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), placing the institutions among top performers in the county.
The results were officially released on Thursday December 11, 2025 by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migamba Migos.
Speaking to the media on Friday at Bungoma DEB School, the school’s head teacher, Tobias Khisa, expressed satisfaction with the performance, terming it a major improvement compared to previous years.
Khisa attributed the stellar results to strong collaboration among teachers, learners, parents and local leaders, noting that collective responsibility had played a key role in nurturing academic excellence.
“Achieving such results is not by our own efforts alone. It is a product of teamwork and cooperation between parents, teachers, area leaders and our learners. We promise to work even harder and perform better in the coming years,” Khisa said.
He explained that the KJSEA grading system categorizes performance into four levels: Exceeding Expectations (EE), Meeting Expectations (ME), Approaching Expectations (AE) and Below Expectations (BE).
These categories are further subdivided into EE1, EE2, ME1, ME2, AE1, AE2, BE1 and BE2, with the assessment marked out of a total of 72 points.
At Bungoma DEB School, 20 learners attained the top EE1 category, with three scoring 70 points, eight scoring 69 points and nine scoring 68 points.
An additional 186 learners scored EE2, which is awarded to candidates who obtain between 59 and 67 points.
“In total, 206 of our learners scored in the Exceeding Expectations category,” Khisa said, adding that 148 learners attained ME1 while 77 scored ME2, bringing the total number of learners who met expectations to 225.
Further, 46 learners were placed in AE1 while nine fell under AE2. Notably, the school recorded no learner in the Below Expectations category.
“The school registered 486 candidates for the KJSEA. Out of these, 206 scored EE, 225 scored ME and 55 were in the AE category. None of our learners scored below expectation,” Khisa told journalists.
He revealed that more than 75 per cent of the candidates scored above the ME level, describing the outcome as a clear indicator of improved learning outcomes and effective teaching strategies.
Similarly, Christ the King Junior School in Bungoma posted commendable results, with several learners scoring high marks.
One of the top performers, Banice Maryanne, who scored 69 points, said her best subjects were Mathematics and Integrated Science.
Speaking to the press at her Sinoko home, Maryanne credited her success to consistent support from her teachers and parents, saying she was determined to pursue the science pathway in junior secondary school.
“I thank my teachers and my parents for supporting me throughout my learning journey. My dream is to join Loreto Girls, where I hope to further develop my strengths in Mathematics and Science,” she said.
