A couple from Nangoma village in Matayos constituency, Busia County, has come forward with extraordinary claims, declaring themselves to be Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and Joseph.
The revelation by Judith Nafula and her husband John Wekulo adds to a growing list of individuals from Kenya’s Western Region who identify as biblical figures on earth.
Judith Nafula, officially known, was formerly a congregant at Lwanya Catholic parish before being expelled by the priest.
This followed her alleged acts of prophesying and praying for people to receive healing. Nafula claims she was bestowed the name “Mary” by the Holy Spirit after a two-month fast, during which she says she was directed to perform miracles.
Her husband, John Wekulo, narrated a dramatic account of how the Holy Spirit brought the revelation to them while they were asleep in their bedroom.
“I was surprised seeing bright light in the room. I thought someone had come in and switched on the lights to attack us,” Wekulo recounted.
“Then I started hearing a voice calling ‘Mary’ three times. At the time, my wife was sleeping. She woke up asking the voice, ‘Who is Mary?’ The voice then told her, ‘You are Mary.’”
Wekulo further detailed his own experience: “The voice later told me that I’m Joseph, the father of the world. I was surprised and told the voice my name is John. However, the voice insisted that I’m Joseph and that it would send people to me for healing and helping them.”
On her part, Judith claims she had always known she was a special child, asserting that her birth was somewhat miraculous. “I was born in Uganda, and on the day of my birth, doctors were amazed because I was born a white child,” she stated. “Growing up, people used to come to our home to see me because I was a gift.”
According to neighbors, “Prophet Mary” has continued to attract a significant following, drawing people from within Kenya and even neighboring countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Congo, due to the healing and miracles she claims to perform.
