A Busia court today, July 29, 2025, sentenced Stephen Owino Nekesa to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of committing a sexual offense against a 12-year-old child.

Owino was charged with incest under Section 20 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006, and also with committing an indecent act with a child under Section 11 (1) of the same Act.

The court heard that the horrific incident occurred on August 28, 2023, at Khunyangu Village in Butula Sub-County, Busia County.

Prosecutor Mr. Mumo presented compelling evidence and testimonies from four witnesses during the trial.

The court was told that on the night of the incident, the young complainant went to deliver food to her brother, the accused.

Upon her arrival, Owino allegedly grabbed her outside the house, forced her inside, covered her mouth, pushed her into the bedroom, and sexually assaulted her.

The trial court concluded that the prosecution had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Owino committed incest as defined by law, leading to his conviction and the imposition of a life sentence.
