CAF Champions League enters decisive phase as matchday four kicks Off

The CAF Champions League resumes this weekend with Matchday Four of the group stage, as clubs across Africa enter a decisive phase in the race for qualification to the quarter-finals.

With the competition now at its halfway point, teams at the summit of their respective groups will be looking to consolidate their positions, while those chasing will be desperate to revive fading qualification hopes.

In Group A, attention shifts to Cairo on Sunday, February 1, where defending champions Pyramids FC host Morocco’s RS Berkane in a crucial top-of-the-table clash.

Both sides are tied on seven points, with Berkane leading on goal difference, making the encounter pivotal in shaping the group standings.

Elsewhere, Rivers United of Nigeria face Power Dynamos of Zambia as both teams look to stay in contention.

Group B action sees Young Africans SC welcome record champions Al Ahly on Saturday.

The Egyptian giants are aiming to edge closer to qualification, while Yanga, currently second, will be keen to narrow the gap at the top. Later that day, AS FAR Rabat take on JS Kabylie in another key fixture.

In Group C, the spotlight will be on Friday, January 30, when Al Hilal of Sudan face Mamelodi Sundowns in a top-of-the-table showdown.

The two sides are separated only by goal difference, with Sundowns holding a slim advantage. On Sunday, MC Alger host St Éloi Lupopo, with the Algerian side needing a win to reignite their qualification hopes.

Group D fixtures begin on Saturday as Petro Atlético host Stade Malien, who currently sit top of the group.

On Sunday, Simba SC face Espérance de Tunis in a potentially decisive encounter as the battle for quarter-final places intensifies.

With the margin for error narrowing, Matchday Four promises high-stakes football across the continent.
