The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup 2024/25 Final, originally scheduled for the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, will now be held at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on May 25, 2025.
The decision comes after extensive efforts by CAF in collaboration with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and other stakeholders to ensure the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium met the required standards and regulations for hosting such a high-profile match.
CAF’s intervention aligns with a policy introduced by President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, which mandates the CAF Secretariat to work closely with local football associations and stakeholders to ensure that all CAF Member Association countries can host major club and national team matches in their preferred local stadiums.
The policy is part of a broader objective to promote the development and financial sustainability of football infrastructure across all 54 CAF member nations.
Despite the commitment and cooperation of the TFF, its President Wallace Karia, and the Tanzanian Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, an independent stadium assessment concluded that necessary repairs and upgrades at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium could not be completed in time.
As a result, CAF made the decision to relocate the final’s second leg to ensure compliance with its regulations and to maintain the integrity of the competition.
CAF has expressed gratitude for the efforts made by Tanzanian authorities and reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the TFF and the government in upgrading not only the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium but also other essential infrastructure.
These improvements are particularly important as Tanzania prepares to co-host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside Kenya and Uganda, starting August 2, 2025.
CAF remains confident that with ongoing collaboration, Tanzania’s stadiums and facilities will meet all required standards, ensuring the success of upcoming continental tournaments and contributing to the long-term growth of football in the region.
